Technique Practice, Molten Stone

Just a quick post tonight.  After going down to the Brothers Grimm on Long Island for a tournament I've decided our club needs more terrain!  So I figure I better get to work.

I know I've always been a bit of a lazy painter.  I tend to not paint for long periods of time, and then rush through a job when I need to get something done.  I've decided I want to try and change my ways, start learning how to really paint and try my best to enjoy and embrace this side of the miniature hobby.

So here are a few shots of some technique practice that I did this evening.  I have had the Warhammer Ruins set sitting in my living room assembled but unpainted for about 6 months.  This spire was done as a mock up before I go ahead and paint the entire Ruins piece.  I'm pretty happy with the result, so I guess I'll have to move forward on it!

This was a pretty simple design.  First the entire piece was sprayed Black using the GW spray paint.  Then a dry brush of Codex Grey was applied over the entire piece.  After that a highlight dry brush of Fortress Grey was run over the skulls at the top and bottem, as well as along all the hard edges.  A final VERY light drybrush of Fortress Grey was also done over the flat surface to bring out a bit of depth.

The Molten Stone was also pretty quick and easy to do.  First I applied a layer of Mechrite Red foundation paint to deliniate the fire area.  After that it was a quick layer of Blood Red, Blazing Orange, Firey Orange, Golden Yellow, and a really small bit of Skull white.  So what do you guys think?

Fire Dragon Exarch

Well I'm hard at work painting up my Eldar army for the upcoming Conflict GT next weekend!  It certainly is a long process.  Here is one guy im pretty proud of,  he is a fire dragon exarch.  I got insperation for his paint scheme from a Fire Dragon picture I saw on GW's what's happening today blog.
Here is the image I based mine off of:

And heres what I came up with! (unfortunatly still working on taking brighter pictures.

Its hard to see in these images, but I attempted to reproduce the dull red paint found on the GW guy by dry brushing the Foundation Red paint over the entire model before doing anything else.  Im really happy with the result I got!

Army ADD, on to Eldar

Ok, more army builder playing...  Im really getting back into Eldar, and now that I have army builder I can just sit here and poop out lists for hours on end.  This one I think is a lot of fun and I can currently field.

Farseer on jetbike, full wargear, Doom, Fortune, Guide
4 Warlocks on jetbikes, 2 Singing Spears, Enhance, Embolden, Destructor x2

Autarch on jetbike, Laser lance, mandiblasters, Fusion gun
5 man Sining Spear unit, with Exarch, starlance, Skilled Riders, Hit and Run

x2 Guardian Jetbike Squad (5) with warlock, embolden, singing spear
x2 Vyper Jetbikes, Scatterlaser, Spirit stones
x2 Fire Prisms, Spirit Stones

1500 points

Probably not the most competitive list, but would be a ton of fun to just zoom around the board with.  It could certainly smash into some units rather nicely :).

Eldar Army for Conflict

Well, my friends have convinced me to enter my eldar army into The Conflict GT coming up in January.  Here is my current list design!

Farseer on jetbike.  Full Wargear, Doom, Guide, Fortune. Singing Spear

6 Man Warlock squad on jetbikes.  3 with singing spears. 1 enhance, 1 embolden, 2 destructors

3 Man Guardian Jetbike squad, with attached Warlock with singing spear and embolden

6 Man base Dire Avenger squad(in falcon)

10 Man full Dire Avenger squad, with Exarch w/bladestorm, dual catapults.
DT: Waveserpent with Bright Lances, Spirit stones

6 man Fire Dragon squad, with Exarch w/Crack Shot (to help negate smoke launchers)
DT: Waveserpent with Scatter lasers, Spirit Stones

Falcon with Scatter Laser, Spirit Stones, Holofield.

2x Fire Prism with Spirit stones, Holofield.

Ok thats the list.  The idea is to run around really fast and hope to not die. Leave the scoring falcon in the back taking pot shots on an OBJ. Everything else bounces around where needed.  Seer council hopefully makes a mess of anything it can catch!

My First Post

Welcome to my new Warhammer 40K blog!

My name is Eric and I am addicted to Warhammer 40K. *Sits back down*

I've been taking part in the Warhammer hobby since I was fourteen. My cousin got my my first pack of Eldar guardians,(back when they still had lasguns) and tried to teach me how to paint. Well I never really got into the painting aspect, but found I had a love for playing the game, and really diving into the complexities of the rules of the game. In time my cousin began taking me with him to play in local events using his much larger Eldar army. Life was good.
